These unique shipping container apartments were created by a celebrity chef/entrepreneur named Alejandra Dellepiane.

It’s a hotel in José Ignacio, Uruguay made completely of shipping containers. This is the first hotel of its kind in the country.

Outside you’ll find wooden decks, flower gardens, firepit, jacuzzi and grill. The structures are surrounded by a forest of pine trees and you’re really close to the beach.

Solar panels heat your water and LEDs light everything up for you while you’re there.

  1. Like the all glass house earlier, this will be too hot or too cold. The best place for a container house is underground or ground piled over or as inside structural elements. If on the outside you have to build another wall to protect/insulate it so not savings there with a lot of design restrictions of 8′ wide brings . .

    1. Had coffee with a couple of ladies the other morning and one has two 20’ units buried at her place, I want to get to know her better and have a look at it. She is a very interesting lady as well and very easy on the eyes, (what am I talking about, oh ya). The hill at the back of my place could play host to one so might if time and money allows, look at putting one in on end and do the single elevator thing instead of stairways between levels but right now that is only a would like to do. You are absolutely right about the placement of them underground but they are strong enough to do that. One I seen had full windows in it built by the owner, “periscopes”. Down below inside the unit it felt like you were looking at ground level out a window. The top part was built into a stone and wood fence and unless you got really close you had no idea what it was. That was years ago and today it could be done totally covert by using big screen TVs and cameras. Worth the money, I don’t know but you didn’t feel claustrophobic down there in any way. Using cameras from a high pole or tower, you could have the feeling you were in a penthouse. The possibilities are endless.

        1. I was impressed with the periscopes idea Alex and now with technology like the cameras (I purchased a set of 4 wireless for $145.00 when the manufacture discontinued them, good color and quality) and 60, 65” flat screen TVs getting cheaper, (about the price of a good new window of that size cheaper on Kijiji) it only makes sense. I can see waking up in the morning and having a cup of coffee, opening blinds and watching a recorded Hawaiian sunrise even though I know there is a foot of snow on the ground and freezing weather to face outside. “I can live with the illusion”. Not only would that be a great security feature but with the likes of Skype and so much more we have available today one could have great fun with it, reasonably cheap and we all pay for internet. Lunch in London, dinner on the canal in Amsterdam, and cocktails at a patio door in Paris just watching the traffic and people go by. With the online cameras and traffic cams all over the world linked to your computer today, you can travel anywhere you want and be there darn near instantly, looking out what is your front window LOL. Or of course, I could just watch my own neighborhood and see just who is steeling my hubcaps. Like I said, endless possibilities.
